The United States will elect its next President Tuesday and while four candidates are on the ballot in most states only two have a viable chance of winning enough Electoral College votes to replace President Barack Obama in the White House.

PRESIDENT Jacob Zuma has been accused of breaking his oath of office by not signing the Financial Intelligence Centre (FIC) Amendment Bill, with former finance minister Trevor Manuel saying that once Parliament has passed legislation, the president is required to assent to it unless there is a constitutional issue. Parliament passed the FIC Amendment Bill in May, but it is now waiting for Zuma’s signature. The bill requires banks to perform enhanced due diligence on the "politically exposed", in line with international obligations. But it has aroused ire in some ANC quarters and the Presidency said earlier in August that the delay in signing the bill was because the Progressive Professionals Forum (PPF), a lobby group established by former government spokesman Mzwanele (Jimmy) Manyi, had lodged an objection over its constitutionality. However, Manuel questioned how an individual such as Manyi could "trump the votes" of more than 400 people in Parliament

Notorious kidnap kingpin, Chukwudumeme Onwuamadike, otherwise known as Evans, on Wednesday dragged the Inspector-General of Police, Ibrahim Idris, and three others before the Federal High Court in Lagos for alleged illegal detention. In the suit filed on his behalf by his lawyer, Olukoya Ogungbeje, Evans is praying for the order of court to direct the respondents to immediately charge him to court if there is any case against him in accordance with the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
