New Whitney Houston documentary claims she was bisexual #CAPgist

A new documentary about Whitney Houston has alleged the late singer was bisexual.


Whitney: Can I Be Me premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival on Wednesday night (26Apr17), and saw the music legend’s nearest and dearest open up about their relationships with her.

Among the film’s contributors was Whitney’s best friend and assistant Robyn Crawford, who is alleged to have had an intimate relationship with the I Will Always Love You star.

The singer’s former stylist Ellin Lavar addresses Whitney’s sexuality in the film, saying: “I don’t think she was gay, I think she was bisexual. Robyn provided a safe place for her… in that Whitney found safety and solace.”

It’s not the first time the nature of Whitney’s relationship with Robyn has been called into question. The pair, who first met when they were teenagers in East Orange, New Jersey, were the subject of romance rumours for years, including in the period Whitney was married to Bobby Brown.

“Robyn and Whitney were like twins,” security staff member Kevin Ammons says in the movie, according to People.com, who saw the film. “They were inseparable. They had a bond and Bobby Brown could never remove Robyn. He wanted to be the man in the relationship.”

Whitney’s former bodyguard David Roberts concurred that Bobby and Robyn would “battle for Whitney’s affections”, until Robyn left after the singer’s My Love is Your Love World Tour in 1999.

“That was the downfall of Whitney. Robyn was the person who was keeping her together,” Ellin added.

The new documentary has been made without the approval or participation of Whitney’s family.

 Bobby, Robyn and Whitney’s mother Cissy all declined interview requests for the project, while her estate is said to have attempted to have the documentary shut down, according to filmmaker Nick Broomfield.

Whitney died on February 11, 2012, after being found unconscious in a bathtub.
