As India celebrates its 69th Independence Day on August 15, #CityAlertPlus Magazine takes a look at other notable events that happened on the same day over the years, including other countries that were freed from colonial rule, a historic Beatles concert and the launch of an iconic Apple product.   Assassination of Sheikh Mujibur Rahman, 1975   The founding leader of Bangladesh, which became independent from Pakistan in 1971, and also its first prime minister, Sheikh Mujibur Rahman was overthrown in a military coup and assassinated with several family members on August 15, 1975. Five ex-army men accused of killing him were hanged in 2010. August 15 is now observed as National Mourning Day in Bangladesh. Rahman's daughter Sheikh Hasina Wazed is PM of Bangladesh.  Woodstock, 1969 Considered a watershed in the history of rock and roll and the counter-culture movement, the Woodstock Music & Art Fair was held on a weekend, between August 15 and 17 in 1969. IT DOESN'T GET ANY BIGGER THAN THIS EFC returns to the ultimate entertainment destination, Sun City for the organisations 61 st. event, where on Saturday 8 July both the EFC heavyweight and light heavyweight titles will be put at stake. The heavyweight champion, Andrew van Zyl will take on the division’s biggest threat yet, the undefeated Wessel Mostert. The challenger has put away every fighter he has ever faced, but whether he has what it takes to dethrone the iron-jaw of the three-time heavyweight champion is what remains to be seen. Mostert, Rustenburg’s rising star is not only a massive threat to Van Zyl, but he might just enter the bout,  as the local favourite. Sun City is in his home province and crowds will be in full support of the challenger, but the ‘Wess Express’ faces his absolute toughest challenge in his quest for EFC gold.
